Publication Ethics
Resilience Press is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity in all aspects of its operations in the publishing of the International Journal of Disaster Studies and Climate Resilience. We adhere to the principles and guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Council of Science Editors (CSE) to ensure the credibility, transparency, and fairness of our journal. Below, we outline the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process: authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher, based on COPE and CSE guidelines.
1. Responsibilities of Authors
-
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their submissions are original works and have not been published elsewhere. Proper attribution must be given to all sources used, and any form of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, is strictly prohibited.
-
Data Integrity: Authors must present accurate and reliable data. Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data is unacceptable. Raw data should be retained and made available upon request.
-
Authorship: All individuals who have made significant contributions to the research should be listed as co-authors. Authors must ensure that all co-authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission.
-
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence the research or its interpretation. Conflicts of interest should be declared at the time of submission.
-
Multiple or Concurrent Submissions: Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously is unethical and unacceptable.
-
Compliance with Ethical Standards: Research involving human or animal subjects must comply with relevant ethical standards and include appropriate documentation of approval from an institutional review board or ethics committee.
2. Responsibilities of Reviewers
-
Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents and must not share or use any information from the manuscript for personal gain.
-
Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively, with constructive feedback provided to improve the quality of the manuscript. Personal criticism of the authors is inappropriate.
-
Timeliness: Reviewers should complete their evaluations within the agreed timeframe and notify the editor if they require an extension.
-
Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from reviewing a manuscript if they have a competing interest.
3. Responsibilities of Editors
-
Fairness and Impartiality: Editors must evaluate manuscripts based on their intellectual content without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, citizenship, or political philosophy.
-
Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, or other editorial advisors.
-
Decision-Making: Editorial decisions should be based on the manuscript's originality, significance, and relevance to the journal's scope. Editors must ensure a fair and unbiased peer review process.
-
Conflict of Interest: Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where they have a conflict of interest and delegate such tasks to another editor.
-
Corrections and Retractions: Editors are responsible for promptly addressing errors, inaccuracies, or ethical concerns in published articles. Retractions or corrections should be issued when necessary, following COPE guidelines.
4. Responsibilities of the Publisher
-
Integrity and Transparency: The publisher is committed to maintaining the integrity of the academic record and ensuring transparency in the publication process.
-
Support for Ethical Practices: The publisher will support editors, reviewers, and authors in adhering to ethical standards and will take appropriate action in cases of ethical misconduct.
-
Accessibility and Archiving: The publisher will ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of published content through proper archiving and indexing.
5. Handling Ethical Misconduct
Disaster Resilience Press takes allegations of ethical misconduct seriously. Any suspected cases of plagiarism, data fabrication, authorship disputes, or other ethical violations will be investigated in accordance with COPE guidelines. Appropriate actions, including retraction, correction, or sanctions, will be taken as necessary.
6. Continuous Improvement
We are committed to continuously improving our ethical standards and practices. Feedback from authors, reviewers, and readers is welcomed and will be used to enhance the integrity and quality of our journal.
